Graduate Course: For those of you in western Michigan, I am offering a class for graduate credit based on the information and ideas in The Inspired TeacherClick here for a PDF with complete course and registration information. The class begins on September 25, 2010.

Over the years I have given talks and workshops on a wide variety of subjects.

My first question is “What are the needs of your audience or group?” The second is “What do you hope to accomplish?” Then I can create a program suited to the goals of your group. Here are some of the talks and workshops I have done:

  • Becoming an Inspired Teacher – Avenues to growth for educators
  • Finding the Heart of the Lesson – Identifying and using the critical attributes of the material being taught
  • Growing a Writer – Techniques for improving writing instruction
  • Eye to the Keyhole – Unlocking history through National History Day
  • Parents and the Language Arts – Inviting parents of English Language Learners to support their children’s learning
  • Becoming a National Board Certified Teacher – Mapping the certification process
  • Nonverbal Communication in the Workplace – Things you didn’t know you were saying
  • Mutual Growth – How study groups, structured discussions and peer coaching can improve teaching
  • Workshops can also concentrate on one or more of the chapters in The Inspired Teacher: How to Know One, Grow one, or Be One

I have met the needs of many different audiences:

  • School staffs that schedule professional development days
  • Parent councils
  • Community groups
  • Conference participants at local, state or national meetings
  • Union-sponsored learning days
  • Teachers-in-training at colleges
  • Teachers, supervisors, administrators, interested private citizens

Workshops can be adapted to the time-frame your group or organization needs:

  • One, two, or three hours, or a full day
  • Multi-day offerings, consecutively or spaced over a longer period
